December 7, students from Templeglantine National School, Co. Limerick, spent the day with LEAF Coordinator, Rachel Geary, exploring the Theme – Forests and Climate. Students from 3rd to 6th participated. Every student was given began by taking a quiz to test their knowledge and see if they could identify some of Ireland’s native woodland species. This was followed by a presentation given by Rachel covering topics such as; the importance of our forests, threats to our forest, trees as carbon stores and a closer look at some of the species that were included in the quiz.

The second part of the workshop took place outdoors, the best place to be when learning about forests! The students explored forest food webs, how species are interconnected and learned how bats find their way. To finish off the day the students played Eye-Spy where they had to find a long list of things found in nature. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day!
